What I’ve told many girls who’ve found themselves in abusive relationships:
They don’t act like monsters at the start. They wouldn’t attract their prey otherwise. They wait until they can trap them in their naivety and by then love has been established and you’re less likely to leave right away, which allows them to tighten the shackles and attack your self esteem. You’re ugly. Fat. Stupid. Worthless. He’s jealous. He takes over. You have to literally reinvent yourself to escape the monster’s claws. This can apply to both sexes.
Yes, I really am that theatrical when I give this speech. And they’ve agreed with me every single time.
I hope they remember our conversation next time they get involved with someone.
